2010 REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT

March 2010

Greetings –

THANKS to the more than 75 people who attended the 2008 Ward – Riley Family Reunion on July 12, 2008, in Echo, AL. After the ‘pot luck’ luncheon, we  had a great presentation by Dr. Peggy Venable, Director at Tama Tribal Town, Whigham, GA.  She talked about the history, myths and & legends of the Muskogee Creek Indians.  Our family can be traced back to the Muskogee Creek Indians on one side.

There is a family history book about the Wards and Rileys being written and compiled by Manonia Snell.   She is a well known genealogist and author in southeast  Alabama.   Manonia has been working on the book for 8 years with the expected completion this year.   She is President of Dale County Genealogy and Historical Society and is a retired school teacher from Dale County School System.  She went to school in Echo. The book is being edited and indexed this month and will be ready for everyone this summer.  BUT, not until the end of July.

Since we cancelled the reunion in 2009 because the book was not ready, we have delayed the reunion until July 31, 2010.  Published copies of the book should be available at the Reunion, ready to purchase.    The extra time is needed to make certain all information is correct, edited and indexed.   The cost of the book is not known yet.  Check quickly with Manonia Snell if you have something new to add.  Perhaps it can be added without much difficulty.

[ Info Needed ]

The 2010 Ward – Riley Reunion will be held at the Echo United Methodist Church , Echo (near Ozark), AL.  This is the same place that we have used in the past.   Everyone attending needs to bring some food for the ‘pot luck’ luncheon, as in the past.  We will start setting up everything at 11 a.m. with the luncheon at 12 noon.

The event generally ends around 2 p.m.  We always end up with enough food for everyone by hosting the luncheon this way.  Anyone who wants to bring pictures or other items from the family is welcome to bring these.    Purchasing the book and looking it over will take most of our time on Saturday, July 31

Anyone who is related to the Wards or Rileys is welcome to the Reunion.   Please spread the word.     Thanks to Nina McDaniel for securing the church.

Any comments or suggestions, please contact Bob White at bob@fsuinsurance.com or 1-800-881-1046, ext. 106, or fax 407-260-1275.   There is a website, maintained by Pete Unger, with a great deal of the history, pictures and numerous other items --  www.johnriley-sr.net.    You will see there are a number of contributors to the website.

See you JULY 31!
